SUP Girls Gold Coast - Pink Paddle

SUP Girls Gold Coast - Pink Paddle

Hi. Mel from AOH here. This is the most personal blog post I’ve shared on our page which is a bit uncomfortable but worth it...

This year marks 10 years cancer free for me. Being diagnosed with breast cancer at 32 with 2 young kids was pretty terrifying! But thanks to research and incredible family and community support we got through it.👊

So when I saw that community group ‘SUP Girls Gold Coast’ had organised a ‘pink paddle’ in support of breast cancer awareness I couldn’t wait to be there.

I rounded up a few girlfriends, and as it turned out all of our daughters were free and able to join us, which made it extra special. It was a beautiful sunny morning, and we all had a lot of fun chatting, exploring the creek on our SUPs, and making new friends. Community is so important to me so today was really special!

After my cancer treatment had finished Adam and I decided to embark on a new adventure, our little family business, Action Outdoor Hire, based at Tallebudgera Creek in Palm Beach, hiring all kinds of recreational equipment, including stand up paddle boards, which has led me here to this community today. Full circle moment! Feeling so grateful for all who have supported us along the way.

Thank you to Kim from SUP Girls Gold Coast for organising today and to all of the awesome women who joined us.💕

Our favourite Gold Coast and Tweed Coast beaches

Our favourite Gold Coast and Tweed Coast beaches

The Gold Coast is famous for its beautiful beaches, and it’s definitely at the top of our list of things to love about the Gold Coast! So how do we choose which beach to hang out at each day? Well we really are spoilt for choice!

We spend most of our mornings before work, as well as lunch breaks and any spare time we get throughout the day at our local beaches - Palm Beach, Tallebudgera Beach and Burleigh Heads.

On our days off we like to visit some other favourite spots up and down the coast -

The Spit at Main Beach on the northern end of the Gold Coast is a great spot if there’s a northerly wind, with the break wall offering protection from the wind. If you enjoy a walk the Federation Walk at The Spit is a nice easy 3.5km walk. The kiosk at The Spit has lunch, snacks and drinks.

Miami and Nobby’s Beach are just as beautiful as Burleigh but less crowded. Great beaches, lots of cool cafes and restaurants, as well as a great pedestrian/bike track along the foreshore.

Currumbin Alley and Kirra Beach are awesome if you can get there on a quiet day. They can get really crowded on weekends because they are just so beautiful! Great cafes within walking distance of both.

Over into NSW, there are endless kilometres of beautiful beach breaks and headlands along Fingal, Kingscliff, Casuarina and Cabarita. We rarely have a plan when we head south, we just love cruising the coastline and surfing/swimming at different beaches along the way.

If we’ve taken the stand up paddle boards we always stop at the river at Kingscliff for a paddle and swim in the crystal clear water.

There’s a great track along the foreshore of Kingscliff and Casuarina which is popular for bike riding, and plenty of great bush walks with stunning coastal outlooks further down along Cabarita and Hastings Point.

Ok, there are a few other secret spots but you’ll have to go on your own adventures to discover those!

We deliver our hire surfboards, bodyboards and wetsuits, bikes, SUPs and kayaks* all along the Gold Coast and Tweed Coast. Call to book.

Enjoy🏄‍♂️

Happy School holidays NSW kids!

You might like to hire them overnight or for a few days, allowing you to enjoy sunrise and sunset paddles (must be able to lock equipment inside overnight).

Of course if you aren’t in a waterfront property we can deliver to a waterway of your choice for a day of paddling.

We also offer flexible hours for Tallebudgera Creek sunrise paddle groups.

In our delivery van we always carry dry bags for phones and keys, and life jackets available for every SUP or kayak user.

Hire rates are on our website or you can give us a call to get a quote for multiple day hire.

Happy paddling!🚣‍♀️

School holidays are for surfing

School holidays are for surfing

We hear it all the time... You’ve come to the Gold Coast or Tweed Coast for a holiday in winter and you didn’t bring your board because it was one extra thing to carry that probably won’t get used because it’s going to be too cold. When you arrive you do a lap along the coastline, see how clear and inviting our winter surf is, it’s 22° in the water, and you and you little groms are busting to get out there!

That’s where we come in.

Give us a call to discuss our range of surfboards, beginner soft boards, body boards and wetsuits for hire, and we will deliver to you at your accommodation on the Gold Coast or Tweed Coast, and pick up at the end of your stay.

Couldn’t be easier!

And with so many awesome beaches to explore along the Gold Coast, Tweed Coast and further  down along the Byron Coast, you may want to hire some soft racks for the car.

It really is a beautiful time of year in Southeast Queensland and Northern New South Wales. Get in the water. Your kids will remember that winter surf trip  forever!🏄‍♂️

Best way to start the day

Best way to start the day

What did you do before breakfast today?

This crew got up early and met us at Tallebudgera Creek for some sunrise stand up paddle boarding and kayaking! We met at 6:30am and they got straight out there on the water. Conditions were perfect! The full moon was setting as the sun was rising, the water was crystal clear and it was a smooth paddle up into the natural surroundings of the creek. It’s such a magical time of day as the birds are waking up and making lots of noise, and the fish and stingrays are splashing around.. so much to explore.

They finished their paddle at 8am and had worked up a good appetite for their hearty breaky at the surf club. What a great start to their weekend. It can be hard to get out of bed on winter mornings but the reward is huge!

If you’d like to hire SUPs or kayaks for a sunrise or sunset paddle give us a call to book it in.

Whatever you get up to this weekend, we hope it’s a great one!👍

Hire bikes and get the kids exploring these school holidays

Active and healthy kids

Active and healthy kids

How great is winter (can we really even call it that??) on the Gold Coast?!☀️

School holidays have begun for some and you can’t beat this time of year for kicking the kids outside for some old school healthy activity. These warm, clear Queensland winter days are perfect for playing in the great outdoors.

We have bikes for the whole family, including baby seats and tag along trailers, skateboards, surfboards for beginners and experienced surfers, and kayaks and stand up paddle boards for some flat water play. The water is still lovely and warm, but if you do feel the cold we also have wetsuits. A lot of people hire wetsuits to take to Wet n Wild and White Water World a during winter too.

Most of our hire equipment is available for delivery to the Gold Coast and Tweed Coast, or you can pick up from us at Palm Beach or Tallebudgera Creek.

Happy holidays! Play every day! 🤸‍♀️

Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice

Today is Winter Solstice in Australia - the shortest day of the year - a day to celebrate for most Aussies, not because it’s the shortest day of the year, but because the days will start to get longer again!👏

So what are your plans for winter solstice?

We went to the beach while it was still dark this morning and saw a lot of groms paddling out for a sunrise surf before school. How great is growing up on the Gold Coast?!! We saw a few people out on stand up paddle boards and kayaks around Tallebudgera Creek, a few fishermen, and of course all the usual faces out for an early bike ride, walk or run well before the light of day. It’s such a great time of day to be outdoors.

After work today we’ll ride our bikes up to Burleigh Heads for the Winter Solstice Festival in James Street 5-9pm. There will be all sorts of free entertainment and plenty of winter warming food to indulge in.

In between we will be open all of this beautiful day long delivering our hire stand up paddle boards, kayaks, surfboards, bodyboards and bicycles.

Did you know it’s also International Yoga day today? If you’re out on the SUPs today, why not challenge yourself with a bit of SUP yoga!🤸‍♀️

Happy Winter Solstice!☀️

A birthday sunrise stand up paddle

A birthday sunrise stand up paddle

This fabulous fit and strong woman turned 60 today!🎉.. and what better way to start a new year and a new decade than a sunrise SUP with friends.

We hit the water at Tallebudgera Creek just after 6am and around 12°C.. we thought it would be a lot colder so we were a little over-dressed but pleasantly surprised.

A quick and hard paddle up the creek to start the day with a nice workout, then drifted back out with the tide in time to see the beautiful sunrise at the river mouth!🌅

Then a nice hot coffee at Neptune’s Kiosk aka Bam Bam’s.. hot tip: get the twice baked almond croissant!🤤

It was a magical start to the day for all, especially the birthday girl, who’s had a great workout and earned all the cake and drinks! Happy birthday!🎂🥂

If you’d like to experience a sunrise or sunset paddle on stand up paddle boards or kayaks for a special occasion or just because, give us a call to discuss our flexible hours or overnight hire.
